The SAFe SPC is Scaled Agile's expert-level change agent certification, earned by attending the four-day Implementing SAFe course and passing its exam. Scaled Agile renamed the credential from SAFe Program Consultant to SAFe Practice Consultant, and the current release is the AI-Empowered SPC, courseware version 2026.02.24. It is taken by agile coaches, transformation leads, release train engineers, project managers, product managers and portfolio leaders who will run enterprise SAFe adoptions, and the first exam attempt is included in the course registration fee when taken within 60 days of completing the course. Scaled Agile does not publish a list price for the course itself, because Implementing SAFe is delivered by SPCTs and partner organisations who set their own pricing.
The exam is 60 multiple-choice, single-select questions in 120 minutes, and the passing score is 83 percent. It is web-based, closed book and taken with no outside assistance. The timer displays once questions appear and the exam submits automatically when time runs out, with unanswered questions marked incorrect. You must review and accept a Candidate Agreement before the exam starts. A retake costs $250: the first retake is available immediately after a failed attempt, the second 10 days after the first retake, the third 30 days after the second, and every further retake requires a 30-day wait.
The certification exists to license teaching as well as to prove knowledge. An SPC is authorised to deliver SAFe foundational and advanced courses plus all current SAFe micro-credentials, subject to a training policy that changed in 2025. SPCs may teach Lean Portfolio Management and SAFe Release Train Engineer only if they have completed the relevant trainer validation, and Implementing SAFe and Advanced SPC are reserved for SPCTs. From 3 June 2026 an SPC who has not completed the advanced trainer validations must attend an ASPC course and certify to keep teaching advanced courses.
Scaled Agile publishes the exam blueprint as 13 domains, each with a percentage range rather than a fixed weight. The two heaviest are Product Development Flow at 12 to 14 percent and Explore Lean Portfolio Management at 11 to 13 percent, followed by Build a Foundation with Mindset, Value, and Principles at 9 to 11 percent. The AI-Empowered release added exam topics on AI-empowered SAFe, crafting AI prompts and responsible AI.
Certification runs for one year. Renewal is through the SAFe Expert membership tier at $995 a year plus applicable tax, which renews every SAFe certification you hold and includes Studio Platform access. Expert-level certifications also carry a 36 CEU continuing education requirement, drawn from Learning, Community and Professional Application categories, with holders subject to audit.

Scaled Agile includes the first attempt in the course registration fee only when the exam is taken within 60 days of course completion. Book a date in your calendar on the last day of the course, ideally four to six weeks out, and treat it as fixed.
Preparing for an 80 percent pass mark because that is what older guides say.
The AI-Empowered SPC exam passing score is 83 percent. On 60 questions that means missing no more than 10. The previous SPC 6.0 exam guide listed 80 percent, and third-party pages still quote 80 or even 75, so work from the current Scaled Agile study guide.
Leaving questions unanswered while working through the paper methodically.
The exam submits automatically when the 120-minute timer ends and unanswered questions are marked incorrect. There is no negative marking, so put an answer on every question the moment you reach it, then flag it mentally to revisit if time allows.

Under the current training policy an SPC can teach foundational courses and micro-credentials, but Lean Portfolio Management and SAFe Release Train Engineer require completed trainer validation, and Implementing SAFe and Advanced SPC are SPCT-only. Under the current policy an SPC may teach Leading SAFe, Leading SAFe for Government, SAFe for Teams, SAFe Scrum Master, SAFe PO/PM, SAFe for DevOps, SAFe for Hardware, Agile Software Engineering, SAFe for Architects, Agile HR, Advanced Scrum Master, Agile Product Management and all current SAFe micro-credentials. Lean Portfolio Management and SAFe Release Train Engineer additionally require completed trainer validation. Implementing SAFe and Advanced SPC are reserved for SPCTs.
Can an independent SPC run public courses?
Yes, with limits. An independent SPC not associated with a partner organisation is authorised to teach public in-person courses and private courses remotely or in person, but cannot advertise public trainings on Scaled Agile's training calendar, which is reserved for Gold and Silver Partners. Recording course content is not permitted, and all courses must be taught live.
What changed in the AI-Empowered SPC release?
Scaled Agile added exam topics on AI-empowered SAFe, crafting AI prompts and responsible AI, and refactored both the exam and the practice test with new questions covering them. The exam remains 60 questions in 120 minutes. Courseware moved away from version numbers to release dates, and the current SPC courseware is 2026.02.24.
I hold a SAFe 6 SPC. Do I have to retake the exam to become an AI-Empowered SPC?
No. Active SAFe 6 SPC holders can upgrade by completing the AI Skills for SPCs module in the SAFe Skills Library, a self-paced e-learning of roughly 45 minutes, at no additional cost. Your certification updates automatically and a new digital badge is issued. If your SPC6 has expired you must renew first to regain access to the SAFe Skills library.
How is the SPC exam blueprint weighted?
Scaled Agile publishes 13 domains with percentage ranges rather than fixed weights: Adapt and Thrive with SAFe 2 to 4 percent, Build a Foundation with Mindset, Value, and Principles 9 to 11 percent, Establish Team and Technical Agility 6 to 8 percent, Product Development Flow 12 to 14 percent, Explore Lean Portfolio Management 11 to 13 percent, Lead the Change 6 to 8 percent, Reach the SAFe Tipping Point 4 to 6 percent, Design the Implementation 6 to 8 percent, Launch an ART 6 to 8 percent, Coach ART Execution 6 to 8 percent, Large Solution Integration and Delivery 7 to 9 percent, Enhance the Portfolio 7 to 9 percent, and Accelerate Business Agility 6 to 8 percent.
Does passing the SPC exam renew my other SAFe certifications?
Yes. Scaled Agile states that taking a new course does not renew previously earned certifications, with one exception: if you take an Implementing SAFe course and pass the SPC exam, your previous certifications and access are renewed to match your SPC expiration date.
What languages is the SPC course available in?
Scaled Agile lists the SAFe Practice Consultant course in English, French, German, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. Scaled Agile also states it is in the process of translating courseware and exams into further languages, so confirm availability for your language with the delivering partner before booking.
How does the SPC compare to the Advanced SAFe Practice Consultant?
The ASPC is a separate four-day course and certification aimed at experienced SPCs leading complex transformations, covering engaging executives, transformation strategy, unlocking portfolio flow, customising SAFe and embracing AI. Its exam is 30 questions in 60 minutes with a 75 percent pass mark. An active SPC certification is required to earn the ASPC, and from 3 June 2026 an SPC without advanced trainer validations must become ASPC certified to keep teaching advanced courses.
How does the SPC compare to a Certified Scrum Trainer or ICAgile track?
The SPC certifies you to implement and teach one specific framework, SAFe, at enterprise scale, and it carries a teaching licence tied to Scaled Agile's courseware and licensing rules. Scrum Alliance and ICAgile credentials are framework-agnostic or Scrum-specific and do not license you to deliver SAFe courses. If your client base has standardised on SAFe, the SPC is the credential that maps to the work.
Are accommodations available for the SPC exam?
Scaled Agile does not publish an accommodations policy on its public exam study guide page. Candidates needing an adjustment should contact the Scaled Agile customer support team, which the certification process description names as available for service requests, before booking the exam.
When do I get my SPC exam result?
The exam ends when you press Submit or when the timer runs out, and a score is calculated at that point. Scaled Agile also provides a coaching report with the exam. The practice test carries question-level feedback and its own coaching report, so use it to interpret how the reporting works before your live attempt.
