AZ-900 and AZ-104 practice tests: Microsoft Learn's free assessments vs MeasureUp vs Tutorials Dojo
I keep seeing people pay for AZ-104 practice tests, but Microsoft also has free ones. Are the free ones enough, and if not, which paid one should I buy?

Updated . Every price and figure traces to the vendor or exam body page listed in the sources at the end, with the date it was checked.
Short answer
Start with Microsoft Learn's free practice assessment for your exam: it comes from the team that writes the exams, and you can take it as many times as you like. If you want more volume, Tutorials Dojo's AZ-104 practice exams cost $14.99 for a year (AZ-900: $12.99). MeasureUp's AZ-104 test lists at $99, was on sale for $64.35 on 2 November 2026, and has 193 questions with a certification mode for timed runs.
Since you're here, you already know AZ-900 and AZ-104 aren't passed on course videos alone. What follows is for people deciding how much practice to pay for, and whether Microsoft's free tests are enough. Microsoft is the one major vendor that gives away a proper practice test. Its free practice assessments on Microsoft Learn are built by the same team that develops the exams, are updated when the exam changes, and come with a rationale and links for every question. That changes the buying decision. For AZ-900, the free assessment plus Microsoft's own learning paths is often all you need. For AZ-104, which is a role-based exam of 100 minutes with scenario questions, a paid bank adds volume and a second writer's angle on the same objectives. The table lists every option with its price on 2 November 2026.

Microsoft's free practice assessments come first
Microsoft describes its practice assessments as free, available as many times as you like, and created by the same team that develops its certification exams. Each attempt ends with a score report that gives the answer, a rationale and links to more learning for every question. You reach them from each certification's page on Microsoft Learn, including Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) and Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104), after signing in with a Microsoft account.
Microsoft is clear about the limits. The questions are not the ones on the exam, the assessment does not reflect the exam's length or complexity, and the real exam can include question types, case studies and labs the assessment lacks. Microsoft also notes that the assessments are authored with assistance from AI.
The same pages link a free Exam Sandbox, a demo of the exam interface with the question types you will meet. Spend 15 minutes in it before exam day so the format costs you no time.
How to use the free assessment well:
- Take it once before you study, to see the style and get a baseline.
- Study with the Microsoft Learn paths and your course.
- Retake it after each domain. Because the questions repeat, treat later scores as a check on the explanations, not as proof of readiness.
For AZ-900, many people stop there. For AZ-104, the repeats are the reason to add a paid bank.
Tutorials Dojo for AZ-104 and AZ-900
Tutorials Dojo sells AZ-104 Microsoft Azure Administrator practice exams for $14.99, and AZ-900 Azure Fundamentals practice exams for $12.99, each with unlimited access for one year. Both come with four modes: timed mode under exam conditions, review mode with the answer and explanation after each question, section-based tests by domain, and a final test that draws 40 random questions from the whole bank. Each answer comes with an explanation and references.
The product pages do not state the size of either bank, so you cannot compare question counts directly with MeasureUp. What you can compare is price and modes: at $14.99, the AZ-104 set costs less than a quarter of MeasureUp's list price.
The section-based mode is the most useful part for AZ-104. The exam's five skill areas are identities and governance, storage, compute, virtual networking, and monitoring and maintenance. After a timed test shows which is weakest, drill that section until it catches up.
Tutorials Dojo also sells AWS banks, covered in the best AWS practice exams if you are studying both clouds. The AZ-104 exam guide has the skill areas and a study plan.
MeasureUp: is it worth it?
MeasureUp's AZ-104 practice test lists at $99. On 2 November 2026 its page showed a sale price of $64.35, a 35% discount, so check the price on the day you buy. The test has 193 questions mapped to the five AZ-104 skill areas: 29 on identities and governance, 36 on storage, 49 on compute, 41 on virtual networking and 38 on monitoring and maintenance. MeasureUp lists it as released in June 2020 and last updated in June 2026.
It has two modes. Certification mode is timed and hides answers until the end, like the real exam. Practice mode lets you choose the number of questions, the time limit, the order and which topics appear. MeasureUp's own readiness rule is to pass its test twice in a row at 90% or higher in certification mode.
MeasureUp also offers a subscription to its whole practice test catalogue, from $21, which can work out cheaper if you plan AZ-104 and then another Microsoft exam.
So is MeasureUp worth it? It is the most expensive option here and the largest AZ-104 bank with a stated question count. If the free assessment and one cheaper bank leave you short of confidence, it is a sound third check. If you are on a budget, Tutorials Dojo at $14.99 plus the free assessment covers the same objectives.
MeasureUp's page also quotes a Glassdoor salary for Azure administrators. That is Glassdoor's self-reported data, quoted by a vendor, so it is left out of this guide.
Will you be ready by your exam date?

How to combine them for AZ-104
A practical sequence for a 6 to 10 week AZ-104 plan:
- Week 1. Microsoft's free AZ-104 practice assessment cold, plus 15 minutes in the Exam Sandbox.
- During your course. Tutorials Dojo section-based tests after each skill area. Log every miss.
- Hands-on. Build what you got wrong in an Azure subscription. Microsoft's candidate profile for AZ-104 is expertise in implementing, managing and monitoring an Azure environment, and the exam can include interactive components.
- Three weeks out. Tutorials Dojo final tests, one every few days, on unseen draws.
- Two weeks out. Optional: MeasureUp in certification mode. If you buy it, aim for its own 90% bar twice in a row.
- Last week. The Microsoft assessment one final time, mainly to read every rationale.
For AZ-900, steps 1, 2 and 6 are usually enough: the free assessment, Tutorials Dojo's $12.99 set if you want more questions, and Microsoft's free learning paths. AZ-900 is a 45-minute exam covering cloud concepts, Azure architecture and services, and management and governance.
Never swap any of this for a dump site. Microsoft lists using brain dump material as misconduct that can lead to revoked certifications and a permanent ban. ExamTopics alternatives lists the legitimate options across vendors.
Retakes, renewal and paying less
Microsoft's retake policy for role-based and fundamentals exams is:
- Wait 24 hours before a second attempt.
- Wait 14 days between each later attempt.
- No more than five attempts at the same exam in 12 months from the first.
- Pay for every retake.
Microsoft prices exams by the country where they are proctored, so check your local price on the exam page before booking.
Azure Administrator Associate is a role-based certification. Microsoft says role-based and specialty certifications expire unless renewed, and that you renew at no cost by passing an online assessment on Microsoft Learn. Renewal assessments can be retaken without limit before the certification expires.
Microsoft also links an Exam Replay offer from its certification pages, which bundles an exam with a retake. Free and discounted Microsoft exam vouchers covers Exam Replay, student pricing and Virtual Training Days, plus the Azure exams retired this year, so you do not buy a voucher for an exam that no longer runs.
The stick is simple: a fifth failed attempt locks you out of that exam for the rest of the 12 months. The carrot: AZ-104 jobs covers the administrator roles the certification is built for and how to present it.
AZ-900 first, or straight to AZ-104?
AZ-900 is not a prerequisite for AZ-104. Microsoft describes Azure Fundamentals as a common starting point for a career in Azure, for technology professionals who want to show foundational cloud and Azure knowledge, and expects skills in an area of IT such as infrastructure, databases or software development. AZ-104's candidate profile is subject matter expertise in implementing, managing and monitoring an Azure environment.
Use this rule:
- New to cloud, or new to IT: AZ-900 first. It is 45 minutes, its free practice assessment is a good gauge, and the concepts carry straight into AZ-104.
- Already working in IT with some Azure exposure: go straight to AZ-104 and put the AZ-900 money into practice and lab time.
If you are deciding between clouds rather than between Azure exams, AWS vs Azure compares the two certification tracks, and the AZ-900 exam guide has the domains and study plan.
Whichever exam you pick, the order of operations is the same: the free Microsoft assessment, a course or learning path, one paid bank if you need volume, and hands-on practice in Azure itself.

What this page does not claim
This page compares what Microsoft, Tutorials Dojo and MeasureUp publish about their own products on 2 November 2026. Tutorials Dojo does not state its bank sizes, so question counts cannot be compared like for like, and no independent source measures how closely any bank matches the live exam. MeasureUp's sale price may have ended by the time you read this. Microsoft exam fees vary by country, so this page does not quote one. No practice score guarantees a pass.
Exam guides for this choice
- Azure Administrator (AZ-104), for the five skill areas and a study plan
- Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900), if you are new to cloud and want the foundational exam first
- AWS Solutions Architect Associate, if you are weighing an AWS certification instead
Common questions
Is the Microsoft Learn AZ-104 practice assessment enough?
It is the best free starting point, written by Microsoft's exam team with unlimited attempts. Because the questions repeat, most people add one paid bank such as Tutorials Dojo ($14.99) for unseen questions before booking.
Is MeasureUp worth it for AZ-104?
It lists at $99 (on sale for $64.35 on 2 November 2026) for 193 questions with a timed certification mode. It is a sound final check if cheaper options leave you unsure, but not necessary if you already score well on unseen questions elsewhere.
What is the best AZ-900 practice test?
Microsoft's free AZ-900 practice assessment first. Tutorials Dojo's AZ-900 practice exams add volume for $12.99 with a year of access.
Tutorials Dojo or MeasureUp for AZ-104?
Tutorials Dojo for price ($14.99, four modes including section-based tests). MeasureUp for a stated 193-question bank with a strict timed mode, at a higher price. You usually need only one, alongside Microsoft's free assessment.
How many times can I retake AZ-104?
Up to five times in 12 months from your first attempt. Microsoft requires 24 hours before the second attempt and 14 days between later ones, and every retake is paid.
Should I use ExamTopics questions for AZ-104?
No. Microsoft lists brain dump material as misconduct that can lead to revoked certifications and a permanent ban, and it already gives you a free practice assessment written by its exam team. Use that, then a named vendor such as Tutorials Dojo or MeasureUp if you want more questions.
Does AZ-104 expire?
Yes. Microsoft says role-based certifications expire unless renewed, and renewal is free: pass an online assessment on Microsoft Learn before the expiry date.
