The UTBK, or Ujian Tulis Berbasis Komputer, is Indonesia's national computer-based entrance test for state universities, and it is taken by final-year secondary students and by 2024 and 2025 graduates who want a place through the SNBT pathway. The test fee is Rp 200,000, waived for holders of a category 1 KIP-Kuliah card, and the test itself runs 195 minutes with 160 questions. The names have changed and the old ones cause confusion. The SNMPTN grade-based route was replaced by SNBP, Seleksi Nasional Berdasarkan Prestasi, and LTMPT was replaced by the SNPMB team that now runs both routes from snpmb.id under the higher education ministry. There are three ways into a state university in 2026. SNBP selects on school report grades and achievements and is free to the student because the government covers the cost. SNBT selects on the UTBK result, paid for by the candidate with a government subsidy. Selection Mandiri is run by each university on its own terms and may use the 2026 UTBK score. Quotas are fixed by university type: at BLU and Satker state universities SNBP takes a minimum of 20 percent, SNBT a minimum of 40 percent and Mandiri a maximum of 30 percent; at legally autonomous PTNBH universities the split is a minimum of 20 percent, a minimum of 30 percent and a maximum of 50 percent. The UTBK covers two blocks. The Tes Potensi Skolastik has four subtests: Penalaran Umum with 30 questions in 30 minutes, split evenly into inductive, deductive and quantitative reasoning; Pengetahuan dan Pemahaman Umum with 20 questions in 15 minutes; Pemahaman Bacaan dan Menulis with 20 questions in 25 minutes; and Pengetahuan Kuantitatif with 20 questions in 20 minutes. The Tes Literasi has three: Literasi dalam Bahasa Indonesia with 30 questions in 42.5 minutes, Literasi dalam Bahasa Inggris with 20 questions in 20 minutes, and Penalaran Matematika with 20 questions in 42.5 minutes. SNPMB states there is no rest period at any point during the test. A candidate may sit the UTBK only once in 2026, and the result is valid only for SNBT and state university admission in that year. Anyone who was already accepted through SNBP in 2024, 2025 or 2026 is barred from SNBT 2026. In 2026, 871,496 candidates registered for UTBK-SNBT against 286,864 places, and 256,369 were accepted, which SNPMB reports as 29.42 percent of registrants and 89.37 percent of the available capacity.

Why Get SNMPTN/UTBK Certified?

Exam Format & Structure

Duration

195 minutes in total, with a fixed time limit on each subtest and no rest period at any point during the test. The subtest timings are Penalaran Umum 30 minutes, Pengetahuan dan Pemahaman Umum 15 minutes, Pemahaman Bacaan dan Menulis 25 minutes, Pengetahuan Kuantitatif 20 minutes, Literasi dalam Bahasa Indonesia 42.5 minutes, Literasi dalam Bahasa Inggris 20 minutes and Penalaran Matematika 42.5 minutes.

Passing Score

SNPMB publishes no passing score and no minimum threshold for the UTBK. Admission depends on rank against other applicants to the same study programme, and each state university sets its own requirements for the programmes it offers.

Delivery Method

Computer-based testing at UTBK centres run by state universities. The candidate chooses a city or region at registration and the system then assigns the specific UTBK centre and the session. The 2026 test ran in a single wave over 10 days, from 21 to 30 April 2026, with two sessions per day.

How scoring works

Score scale

SNPMB does not publish a score scale for the UTBK in its 2026 materials. The certificate issued after results reports a score for each of the seven subtests, and from 2026 Literasi dalam Bahasa Indonesia is reported as two scores, one for science context and one for social-humanities context.

Score needed to pass

There is no published passing score and no minimum threshold. Selection is by rank against other applicants to the same study programme, taken in the candidate's stated order of priority, and each state university sets its own requirements for the programmes it offers.

When results arrive

There is no unofficial or on-screen score at the test centre. SNBT 2026 results were published on 25 May 2026 at 15.00 WIB through pengumuman-snbt.snpmb.id and 45 university mirror sites, after testing ran from 21 to 30 April 2026. SNPMB announced the UTBK certificate as downloadable from 26 May 2026 at 15.00 WIB, while the launch presentation listed a certificate download window of 2 June to 31 July 2026.

How the scale is built

SNPMB does not publish the scoring formula. What the chair of the 2026 SNPMB responsible team, Eduart Wolok, described publicly is a two-stage process handled by two separate teams. Answers are re-validated item by item and then scored by a team that cannot see candidate names or registration numbers, after which a different team applies weighting based on ranking. He cited that separation as the reason results are published roughly a month after testing ends. No penalty scheme for wrong answers is published in the 2026 general information, framework or registration documents.

Pacing and time budget

160 questions in 195 minutes gives you 1 minute 13 seconds on average, but the real budgets range from 45 seconds per question in Pengetahuan dan Pemahaman Umum to 2 minutes 8 seconds per question in Penalaran Matematika per question.

The average is misleading and following it will cost you the test. Pengetahuan dan Pemahaman Umum allows 45 seconds a question while Penalaran Matematika allows nearly three times that, so rehearse each subtest at its own tempo rather than at a uniform pace.
Time does not carry between subtests. Finishing Literasi dalam Bahasa Inggris in 15 minutes does not buy five minutes for Penalaran Matematika; the system simply moves on when a subtest's timer expires.
Penalaran Umum closes three separate 10-minute windows in a row. Treat inductive, deductive and quantitative reasoning as three mini-tests, and abandon a stubborn question at the 60-second mark rather than losing two more with it.
SNPMB states that no rest period is provided while the test is running, so the full 195 minutes are continuous. Deal with hydration and toilet needs before the session begins.
The two 42.5-minute literacy blocks arrive in the second half of the test, when concentration is already spent. Build endurance by simulating the full sequence rather than practising subtests in isolation.

If you fail

Wait before retaking

One year. SNPMB permits only one UTBK sitting per candidate per cycle, and the 2026 result is valid only for SNBT and state university admission in 2026, so the next opportunity is the following year's UTBK. For 2026 the timeline ran from student account registration opening on 12 January, through registration from 25 March to 7 April, payment to 8 April, participant card download from 11 to 15 April, testing from 21 to 30 April and results on 25 May.

Attempt limit

One attempt per cycle, and eligibility itself limits the number of cycles. Only final-year students of the current year and graduates of the two preceding years may register, so a 2026 school leaver can attempt UTBK in 2026, 2027 and 2028 at most. Paket C candidates additionally face a maximum age of 25 as at 1 July of the examination year. Anyone accepted through SNBP in 2024, 2025 or 2026 is barred from SNBT 2026 entirely.

Retake fee

Rp 200,000 for each cycle, the same as a first attempt, paid at Mandiri, BNI, BTN, BRI or BSI. Category 1 KIP-Kuliah holders pay nothing. Where a payment fails to flag as received and the payment window has expired, SNPMB has the candidate re-register and refunds the amount already paid.

There is no partial retake and no resit of an individual subtest. Candidates blacklisted for using an impersonator or prohibited equipment cannot be accepted through any state university admission route in future years, which removes the retake option altogether. Disqualified candidates, including the 1,560 penalised for document problems in 2026, receive neither selection nor a UTBK score certificate for that cycle. Biodata, programme choices and the chosen UTBK city are all saved permanently at registration and cannot be amended for any reason.

Preparing for SNMPTN or expecting an LTMPT process

Neither exists any more. The grade-based route is SNBP, the test-based route is SNBT, and both are administered by the SNPMB team at snpmb.id rather than by LTMPT. Old guides describing SNMPTN quotas, LTMPT accounts or a TKA section inside the UTBK describe a system that has been replaced.

Practising with one 195-minute clock instead of seven separate subtest timers

Each subtest has its own limit, from 15 minutes for Pengetahuan dan Pemahaman Umum to 42.5 minutes for Literasi dalam Bahasa Indonesia and Penalaran Matematika, and Penalaran Umum is further split into three 10-minute blocks. Time saved in one subtest cannot be spent in another, and SNPMB states there is no rest period during the test.

Pacing Pengetahuan dan Pemahaman Umum like the rest of the test

It gives 20 questions in 15 minutes, which is 45 seconds each, against over two minutes each in Penalaran Matematika. A candidate who reads its long passages at literacy-subtest pace will not finish. Decide before the test which item format you will attack first.

Saving biodata, programme choices or the UTBK city before checking them

The registration system saves each of these permanently. SNPMB states plainly that once saved, data cannot be changed for any reason. Read the confirmation screen line by line before pressing Simpan Permanen, because a wrong province or a misordered choice cannot be undone.

Choosing four programmes without reading the combination rules

One or two choices may be any programme. Three choices must be two academic and one vocational, or one academic and two vocational, or three vocational with at least one Diploma Tiga. Four choices must be two academic and two vocational with at least one Diploma Tiga, or one academic and three vocational with at least one Diploma Tiga. The system will reject a combination that breaks these rules.

Ranking choices by likelihood instead of by preference

The order states priority and selection runs down the list. In SNBT 2026, 108,488 candidates were accepted on choice one and only 14,272 on choice four, so a realistic lower choice is worth placing but never above the programme you actually want.

Uploading an old or mismatched photograph

SNPMB's 2026 results report lists 174 candidates disqualified by automatic photo detection and a further 7 for a non-conforming photograph. Disqualification means no selection and no UTBK score certificate. Upload a current colour photograph that matches the person who will sit the test.

Submitting incomplete or non-conforming documents

This was by far the largest single cause of disqualification in 2026, affecting 1,560 candidates. Candidates without a diploma must bring a school letter carrying name, class, NISN, NPSN, a recent colour photograph, the head teacher's signature and the school stamp placed over the photograph. Check each element against the published requirement before test day.

Ticking the tunanetra box without the disability

The registration guide warns both ways. A blind or visually impaired candidate who does not tick the box is placed in a room with no facilities for visual disability. A candidate who ticks it without the disability, if found out, is not permitted to sit the UTBK at all. The declaration must be signed by the head or deputy head of school and uploaded as a PDF of no more than 300 KB.

Registering for SNBT after already passing SNBP

Anyone declared accepted through SNBP in 2026, 2025 or 2024 is barred from SNBT 2026. A candidate who passed SNBP 2026 also cannot register for any university's Seleksi Mandiri route in 2026. Confirm your SNBP status before spending anything on UTBK preparation or registration.

Sarjana (bachelor's degree) place at an academic state university

The largest destination by a wide margin. SNBT 2026 offered 228,118 Sarjana places after revision, out of 286,864 total. Applicants concentrate heavily on a handful of institutions: Universitas Indonesia drew 100,253 applicants, Universitas Sebelas Maret 91,611 and Universitas Gadjah Mada 84,637.

SNPMB publishes no salary or earnings data. What it does publish: 203,515 of the 256,369 SNBT places filled in 2026 were Sarjana programmes at academic state universities.

Diploma Empat or Sarjana Terapan place at an academic or vocational state university

Applied bachelor's programmes, and the level the four-choice combination rules push candidates toward. Occupational health and safety programmes are the most contested: Keselamatan dan Kesehatan Kerja D4 at Universitas Sebelas Maret drew 5,582 applicants for 43 places.

No earnings data is published by SNPMB. What it does publish: 9,709 Diploma Empat places at academic state universities and 20,322 at vocational state universities were filled through SNBT 2026.

Diploma Tiga place at a vocational state university or polytechnic

At least one Diploma Tiga is required in most three- and four-choice combinations, which makes this level a structural part of the strategy rather than a fallback. Politeknik Negeri Bandung was the most applied-to vocational institution in 2026 with 48,483 applicants.

No earnings data is published. What SNPMB does publish: 8,074 Diploma Tiga places at academic state universities and 14,748 at vocational state universities were filled through SNBT 2026.

Place obtained with KIP-Kuliah financial support

Category 1 KIP-Kuliah holders pay no UTBK fee. Acceptance is not automatic: the university where the candidate is admitted verifies both academic and economic data, through documents and potentially a visit to the candidate's home address. KIP-Kuliah holders cannot choose universities or programmes under the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

No earnings data is published. What SNPMB does publish: 86,118 of the 256,369 SNBT places in 2026 went to candidates from the KIP-Kuliah applicant pool, which is 33.59 percent of everyone accepted.

Place through Seleksi Mandiri using the 2026 UTBK score

Each university sets its own mechanism and may use the 2026 UTBK score, which means one sitting can support two admission attempts in the same year. The exception is candidates who already passed SNBP 2026, who cannot register for Seleksi Mandiri at any state university that year.

Is SNMPTN still a thing, and who runs the exam now?

No, and this is the most common source of confusion. The grade-based SNMPTN route has been replaced by SNBP, Seleksi Nasional Berdasarkan Prestasi, and LTMPT has been replaced by the SNPMB team, which runs both SNBP and SNBT from snpmb.id under the higher education ministry. Any guide that describes SNMPTN quotas, an LTMPT account, or a TKA academic section inside the UTBK is describing a system that no longer operates.

How many times can I take the UTBK?

Once. SNPMB states that an SNBT candidate is permitted to sit UTBK 2026 only once, and the result is valid only for SNBT and state university admission in 2026. There is no waiting period to serve, because there is no second sitting within the year. The practical retake is to apply again in a later year, subject to the eligibility rule that only graduates of the current year and the two preceding years may register, with a maximum age of 25 for Paket C graduates.

What does the UTBK cost, and is anyone exempt?

Rp 200,000, which SNPMB describes as borne by the candidate with a government subsidy. Holders of a category 1 KIP-Kuliah card pay nothing. Payment is made at Bank Mandiri, BNI, BTN, BRI or BSI using the code on the slip downloaded from the portal. If a payment does not flag as received, raise a helpdesk ticket with proof of payment; SNPMB coordinates with the bank to flag it manually, and if the payment window has expired the candidate re-registers and the amount already paid is refunded.

What happens if I do not get in?

You still receive a UTBK score certificate, which many state universities accept for their own Seleksi Mandiri route in the same year, so a failed SNBT result is not necessarily the end of the cycle. The exceptions are candidates who were disqualified for a rules breach, who receive neither selection nor a certificate. If nothing works out in 2026, you may register again in 2027 as long as you remain within the graduate-year eligibility window.

How is the UTBK scored?

SNPMB does not publish a score scale, a scoring formula or a passing mark in its 2026 materials. What the SNPMB chair, Eduart Wolok, described publicly is that assessment runs in two separate stages handled by two different teams: answers are re-validated per item and scored by a team that cannot see candidate names or numbers, and a separate team then applies weighting based on ranking. How does SNBT compare with SNBP?

SNBP selects on school records rather than a test, is paid for by the government, and requires the school to have finalised the student's grades in PDSS and the student to be ranked within the school's accreditation-based quota, which is 40 percent of students for accreditation A, 25 percent for B and 5 percent for C and others, with an extra 5 percent for schools that fill PDSS from e-Rapor. Can I take both SNBP and SNBT?

Only if you did not pass SNBP. A student accepted through SNBP in 2026, 2025 or 2024 cannot register for SNBT 2026, and a student accepted through SNBP 2026 also cannot register for any state university's Seleksi Mandiri route in 2026. A student who applied to SNBP and was not accepted is free to register for SNBT.

Does the UTBK score expire?
