Specific Requirements
- None. Scrum.org states that while attending a course is strongly recommended, attendance is not a prerequisite for taking the PSM I assessment.
- No work experience requirement, no degree requirement, no minimum age published by Scrum.org, and no sponsoring employer.
- A Scrum.org account, used to buy the password, launch the assessment and hold the certificate and badge in your member profile once you pass.
- A 200 US dollar payment for the assessment password. Additional taxes may apply and are calculated at checkout.
- A computer with a browser and a stable internet connection. The assessment is delivered online with no proctoring software and no test centre booking.
- Working knowledge of English, unless you take the Japanese version at Scrum.org, the Simplified Chinese version through scrum.org.cn, or use the Google Translate plugin under Scrum.org's published instructions.

Question Format
Multiple choice, where one option is correct, Multiple answer, where more than one option is correct, True or false, Scenario-framed items that ask you to apply a Scrum Guide rule to a situation rather than recite it. Scrum.org warns directly that reading the Scrum Guide alone is not enough because questions ask test takers to interpret information and apply it to challenging situations.
Passing Requirement
85 percent, which is 68 of the 80 questions correct. The same 85 percent threshold applies to every Scrum.org Professional-Level assessment, including PSM II and PSPO I.
How It Is Delivered
Online in a web browser, unproctored and unscheduled. You buy a password from Scrum.org, receive it by email within a few minutes, and start whenever you choose. Each password is valid for one attempt only and has no expiration date. Scrum.org does not release the specific questions you answered correctly or incorrectly; it sends a score and a percentage breakdown by focus area.

English, the default for all Professional-Level assessments, Japanese, through a separate assessment launch page at Scrum.org, Simplified Chinese, delivered through scrum.org.cn rather than scrum.org, Other languages by using the Google Translate plugin in Chrome. Score Scale
A simple percentage from 0 to 100, calculated as the proportion of the 80 questions answered correctly. Scrum.org also reports a percentage for each of the focus areas covered on the assessment, so the result email contains one overall figure plus a breakdown.
Score You Need
85 percent, which is 68 of the 80 questions correct. The same 85 percent threshold applies to every Scrum.org Professional-Level assessment, including PSM II and PSPO I.
How It Is Calculated
There is no scaled score, no item response theory and no equating. Your percentage is raw: correct answers divided by 80. Scoring is compensatory across focus areas, so a weak result in one competency can be offset by a strong result in another, and there is no minimum per focus area. Scrum.org publishes no penalty for a wrong answer, so an unanswered question and a wrong one cost the same. Scrum.org does not publish how partial credit works on multiple-answer items.
When You Get Results
Immediate. The assessment is scored automatically on submission, the result appears on screen, and Scrum.org emails the score with a per-focus-area summary. There is no separate unofficial and official release. On a pass, the name is added to Scrum.org's public certification list and a certificate plus a free Credly badge appear in the member profile.
In raw terms: 68 correct out of 80. You may lose 12 questions and still pass; the 13th ends the attempt.
