Score Scale

No published scale. The Cabinet Office does not release numerical scores to candidates at any stage, and does not publish the marking scheme for the online tests, the assessment centre exercises or the Final Selection Board.

Score You Need

Not published in advance. The Cabinet Office states it sets final pass marks for the online tests after the campaign runs, which means the standard is set against the field rather than announced beforehand.

How It Is Calculated

The Work-based Scenarios test asks you to rate each of four actions on a fixed four-point effectiveness scale, and the published worked example shows each action carries its own correct rating with a rationale. The Case Study Assessment asks for the most effective and least effective of four responses in each of 24 situations. Both are judgement assessments rather than knowledge tests, and no evidence is published that a wrong answer subtracts from the total.

When You Get Results

For the 2025-26 campaign the Cabinet Office aimed to set online test pass marks and inform candidates by early December. Results are released periodically rather than to everyone at once, so candidates receive them on different days. Additional information is assessed within a target of 2 weeks of submission.
